This saga about the canadian prairies, before oil became king, is one that will reach out to people of all generations with characters beautifully sculpted from the Saskatchewan soil. It's to be hoped Smith doesn't stop it here. I hope this is just the start, with more to come. The story follows two farm families in the Canadian prairies, how they grow, consolidate, deal with the encroaching quest for oil and the money it brings, while dealing with the issues that all towns of that era experienced. Of course, they have the added bonus of a psychotic killer... I've driven through Saskatchewan, been on enough farms. Smith hits the nail on the head with this one.
