Perry’s new William and Hester Monk story, a mesmerizing masterpiece of innocence and evil on London’s docks, outshines all her previous novels in this successful and beloved series. When the body of a small-time crook named Mickey Parfitt washes up on the tide, no one grieves; far from it. More About Acceptable Loss
Love also means the freedom to follow your own conscience. If you can't be true to yourself, you don't have much left to give anyone else. Anne Perry, Acceptable Loss //
Anyone who read Execution Dock Historical fiction set in Victorian London ... Interesting perspective on the role of the Thames in social and economic life ... I was annoyed at the beginning by the Cockney dialect and repetition of the circumstances of the crime, especially because the crime involved sexual abuse of young boys. The story ends with a trial; I wonder... First Anne Perry that I've read and I have a feeling I should have started with the previous one but I enjoyed it. Well drawn scene of London at that time, interesting characters and a plot element that I thought I'd guessed but got to the end and then I wasn't sure. But maybe I need to read the next to find out if I was right.
